Asbestos Licence

We started out with a mandatory one-year licence in 2011. When this was due for renewal, we secured a three-year licence after demonstrating our robust policies and procedures for managing Asbestos removal. We have since operated under concurrent 3 year licenses, with the most recent being issued on 22nd September 2018.

Asbestos Removal and Re-instatement

Asbestos was widely used as insulation and fire proofing material in the UK and for any buildings built before 2000 there is a risk that asbestos could be present. Asbestos can be found in many buildings such as:

  • Homes
  • Industrial buildings
  • Commercial buildings
  • Military buildings
  • Ships
  • Sheds/Outbuildings

The more common places where asbestos was used are:

  • Pipework lagging
  • Artex
  • Tiles
  • Airing cupboards
  • Gutters
  • Roofing
  • Partition wall insulation
  • Boiler rooms

Franklyn Shaw are fully compliant and highly trained in the removal of asbestos following strict safety rules and with minimal disruption. We also pride ourselves in the quality of work and attention to detail.

It is a legal requirement for all commercial properties to have an asbestos survey detailing information about the location, quantity and type of asbestos present. The asbestos survey can then be referenced by contractors working on the premises to carry out accurate risk assessments. Having a detailed and up-to-date survey will help prevent accidental disturbance of asbestos in the building causing a health and safety risk for contractors, employees and visitors.

In order to accurately identify the type of asbestos present, a sample will need to be taken and analysed. We have access to a team of highly trained surveyors, who are able to take asbestos samples safely and ensure the immediate area is not contaminated. Having sampling carried out with your survey will give the best results in providing a highly accurate report about the presence of asbestos in the building.

Building a management plan is recommended to accurately document and plan the next steps for dealing with asbestos. A full management plan can provide:

  • A comprehensive and detailed survey of the property
  • Sampling of all known asbestos in the property
  • A plan on how to manage the asbestos that is present

Recommended steps will be provided and a plan of work decided with relevant risk assessments.
